New year, new phone but old name — Samsung has officially unveiled the Galaxy Ace Plus that sports almost all the specs and features of its predecessor, the very popular Galaxy Ace Android smartphone, but with a little more oomph, of course.
As for Samsung, the Galaxy Ace Plus, just like the original one, is intended for “trendy and social individuals or young professionals”. This means, don’t expect too much from this mid-range device.
The Galaxy Ace Plus comes with a faster processor — 1GHz, the same 3GB built-in storage, more RAM — 512MB, and a slightly larger screen size, measuring 3.65″ in diagonal. However, its screen resolution remained the same at HVGA (320 x 480 pixels). Meaning, there’s a slight drop in its screen clarity.
This device still runs on Android Gingerbread under Samsung’s TouchWiz UI with all the social, music and ChatON goodness that brings. It includes a 5-megapixel autofocus camera with LED flash, WiFi, GPS, dual-band 3G with 7.2 Mbps HSDPA, a standard microUSB port and microSD slot, Bluetooth connectivity, and a 3.5mm audio jack.
There’s also something new on its exteriority. The Galaxy Ace Plus is now made of glossy rather than the matte plastic.
The Samsung Galaxy Ace Plus is slated for release in Russia this month and to be followed by other European countries, Latin America, Asia (hopefully, including the Philippines), the Middle East, Africa, and China.
There’s no official word from Samsung on the price yet. But according to sources, it’s being sold in the UK for around £170 (SIM-free), which is approximately Php11,600 in our currency.
Not bad, right? What do you think?
